We have succeeded in transferring the well-known principle of machining by “Roughing and Finishing” to laser technology for the first time. 

When originally used for turning or milling, different coarse and fine tools are used to work through the material. This results in different removal rates with different surface finishes. This is possible because a specific cutting edge always produces a defined contour and surface.

Working with this processing strategy was not possible by laser, as the laserbeam, with no geometrical edge, always reproduces the surface it engraves. The result is a “photocopying effect”.
